The coffee story
Handoko Eko Trisnanto, from the island of Java, is our farmer relations and processing manager. His wife, Novrianti Mangera is from the Toraja growing region on the island of Sulawesi, which was formerly known as Celebes. Early in 2020 Handoko requested we assist his wife's extended family, who are all smallholder coffee farmers, in finding a market for their coffee.
We went one better than just buying their coffee. We sent Handoko and his wife "home" in order to process for us. Ensuring quality in cherries received and processing to our stringent standards Handoko has quickly made a name for himself in the Tana Toraja region. He pays a fair price not just to his extended family but to any other smallholder growers who wish to work with him.
This micro-lot, from a .65 hectare plot in the village of Makale Selatan, was chosen to be our submission to the inaugural Indonesian Cup Of Excellence. We think that highly of it.
