The coffee story
This lot comes from Glanmalure Farm, a specialty-focused farm owned by Vera Stucker and part of her larger estate, Ngila Coffee. Glanmalure is based in the Arusha region in Northern Tanzania on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. The farm has grown coffee for around 100 years in an altitude from 1550 m to 1650 masl. They grow traditional varieties like Kent, Bourbons and SL28 and also Batian, Gesha and Pacamara. All coffees are grown under the shade of trees next to 80 hectares of preserved rainforest, going up to more than 1800 m high.
The 2022-2023 season was difficult. It was an El Nina Year and the short rains failed or came very late. Luckywise the Ndege plots are on the highest point in the farm and protected by Shadetrees. The Microclimate is characterized through the nearby famous Ngorongoro Crater in a altitude of about 1640msl. This Block was planted about 80 years ago. It is a SL28 Bourbon -sub variety and was selected around 1930 from Tanganyika drought resistent varietys. The prefix SL comes from the name of the famous Scott Agriculture Labratorie.
This coffeebeans are very exceptional in the cup, but on the other side theese plants are very sophisticated and needs a lot of attention and care.
The very deep roots of this old coffeestems are able to absorb even in dry seasons enough water and nutirents out of the mineral rich volcnaic soils of the vrater area.et enough water. This has greatly benefited the crop.
The name Ndege is a suaheli word and means bird.
The Coffee is picked selectiv by hand. The dark red berries are the one which will be used for the futrher process only. Our pickers are coming every year to assist our team to get the best cherries. They like the environment and working condition in our farm.
The coffeeprocessing is done with our ecopulper, who helps us to reduce the water usage dramticaly.

Working with nature and people for such a beautiful product is difficult but also a deeply fulfilling work. We hope you can cup this passion in the coffees we are sending to you! - Vera Stuecker
The process
Grading of the beans by the washing process after having soaked them overnight in the fermentation tanks. This is followed by manual selection before the best coffee beans are taken to the drying beds. Washed coffee beans are naturally sundried by turning the parchment until they have reached a relative humidity of 12%.More from this seller
