The coffee story
Chepnorio Farmers Co-operative Society was registered on June 27 1985 under the leadership of Mr Cheruiyot Rono and with a membership of 30 farmers. The Society initially used to produce 50,000 kilos of coffee cherry with little payment of around 7.00 KSh/kg (Kenyan shillings per kilo). Over the years, they have grown exponentially with a vision and desire to improve the living standards of their members.
To date, the Society has an average production capacity of 770,000 kilos of coffee cherry per season and the average pay for every kilo of cherry delivered has grown to almost ksh.80.00. In 2017, the Society opened a new processing unit and now has four operational factories through which the farmers expect to further increase their income by adding value to their produce through primary processing.
The Society's headquarters are situated in Ma-gire sub-location, Chilchilla ward, Kericho County. The society now benefits an additional 400 farmers of the Society's total of 900. Of these, 102 farmers are members of a youth group and 94 are women. With time, the Society has also purchased a tractor to aid in transportation of their products as well as farm inputs.

The process
Coffee is handpicked, delivered to the various factories where it is sorted then soaked overnight in tanks. It is then dried on raised drying beds and during the rainy season most coffee is dried in covered green-house like structures on raised beds.More from this seller
