La historia del café

This coffee was short-listed by the Cup of Excellence (CoE) jury in Peru this year. It was cupped 4 times by an experienced team selected by Central de Café y Cacao, the organization behind the local CoE chapter, in Lima in preparation for the auction. This lot didn't make it to the international phase. However, this is an outstanding coffee amongst the best the country can offer! Lederson's coffee is being offered exclusively to roasters in Europe for direct sales for the first time this harvest. The initiative is being coordinated by Algrano in partnership with Central de Café y Cacao and Pachamama Inversiones with support from the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE).

Farmer name: Lederson FLores Chuquihuanga
Farm: Finca Santa Rosa
Location: Aroma del Valle, Chontali province, Cajamarca region
Altitude: 1670m.a.s.l.
Process: washed

Finca Santa Rosa has been growing coffee since 1992. I started solely with Typica. As time passed, I started investing in more productive varieties such as Catimor, Bourbon and Caturra. I also planted some Pacamara trees which due to the high cup quality. The coffee trees are surrounded by old trees of Pacae and Eucalyptus. In the beginning, we grew coffee below 1200 masl. Due to the permanent rain,  we migrated to a higher area at 1700 masl two years ago. We also have an area for lifestock when we never lack milk for our cup of coffee!

The farm is located at only 5 minutes from the capital of the district of Chontali. I am the third generation of my family to be a coffee farmer and have been doing this all my life. I inherited my grandfather's passion for quality and my father’s strength to expand the production. I have always worked as an independent producer and figured things out by myself. I changed from Typicas and Catimors, for example, because they are not profitable enough to compensate my family's effort. This is why now I changed my focus to high-quality specialty coffee and agrotourism.
