Francis, the 4th generation of coffee farmers in his family, inherited his farm from his father, Julio César. He recalls all workers at the farm used to call his dad "the emperor" because of his name. That is where the farm's name comes from.

Currently the president of Capucas, Francis lived away from Capucas for many years working in construction. He returned 8 years ago, took over the farm management and had to face the leaf rust crisis that plagued the country straight away. 

After the crisis, he started renovating farm, cutting the old Catuaí and Caturra plants and making room for more resistant varietals like Parainema and Obatā. "I treat my farm like a baby that needs a lot of looking after. It is like a family member, who works with me for an income," he says.

Francis prides himself on the cleanliness of his farm, where trees are grown in rows 2m apart from each other in a Brazilian style."
