La historia del café
The greater "Los Yungas" territory is where Bolivian coffee is produced throughout a very wide area sharing the same steep, cloudy and remote landscape as Caranavi.
Los Yungas means in Aymara language " warm lands".
Uchumachi coffee farms are based in this high and tropical climate as you see in the picture. They are small due to challenges created by isolation and a lack of good roads and available labour.
Bolivian farmers don’t have processing equipment or transportation and it is a hurdle to reduce their production costs. Uchumachi producers from this micro-lot had to drive every night for 1,3 hours to deliver their cherries at the wet mill Buena Vista and 1,5 hours back home.
