The coffee story

Coopetarrazú R.L. was founded on October 13th of 1960 with 228 associates in San Marcos of Tarrazú. The cooperative born due to the need for better conditions for small producers, since they had a subsistence economy and did not have a voice or vote in the administration and commercialization of coffee.

The cooperative was formed with a milling process capacity per year of 4,000 quintal (quintal = 46 Kgs bag), currently, Coopetarrazú R.L. has around 4,500 associates and a processing capacity per year of 300,000 quintal. The cooperative always ensures the creation of services that help the well-being and development of its associates, their families, and communities.

Furthermore, Coopetarrazú R.L. is compromised with been environmentally friendly, so, have been develop a liquid and solid waste treatment for the residues of the coffee. The cooperative is always looking for better manufacturing practices in the milling process to lower the environmental impact.

All the coffee is from Tarrazú region, one of the most recognized regions in Costa Rica and in the world. Production is realized between 1,200 and 1,800 m.a.s.l. in ideal climate and soil conditions for cultivation. Coffee harvest takes place during the months of December to March.
