The coffee story

Named after the last indigenous chief of Chirinos, the Mishanango blend brings the idea of our culture and strength. It comes from farms located in the district of Chirinos, San Ignacio province, Cajamarca department. The region's highlands have a cool climate, which is ideal for coffee. Coffee is the main activity of the town of Chirinos, now well-known internationally for its quality and its potential for specialty.

To visit Chirinos, we start our journey in the city of Jaen on the road that goes to the Province of San Ignacio. When we reach the Tamborapa River we take a detour to the left and find the beautiful valley of Cunia with extensive areas of rice cultivation. We then arrive at Juan Velasco with its beautiful beaches and rich pineapple plantations. After that, we reach the village of El Tablón, then Naranjos and finally Chirinos. It takes one hour and a half unless you stop to contemplate the waterfalls of Santa Lucia and Nueva Libertad, the forest of Chichiquilla, the cave of the bats and the Inca corrals of Huayurco.

About Norcafe
Founded in 2015 by the young sons of coffee producers of the Amazonas region, Norcafe represents 285 smallholders with the objective to find new markets for their coffees and secure good prices in order to improve the community's livelihoods.
The association markets coffee for a large number of young families who have inherited their passion for coffee from their parents and decided to follow in their footsteps.

With the support of Norcafe, they have started to improve their practices, increasing the average fermentation period for cherries before washing and drying the best coffees slowly to ensure consistency.  Norcafe also provides pre-harvest assistance in weeding, selective pruning, pest and disease control, fertilisations, planting of living barriers and water care with environmentally friendly practices.

"Mishanango: This coffee is super juicy, sweet and versatile. It brews excellently as espresso aswell as filter and even stands up to milk. It's been an all-round favourite here at Old Spike this year."
