Kannisa Primary Cooperative is founded under the management of Kata Muduga MPFCU in some five years ago with a committed intent of some interested 138 farmers from the area called Kannisa small village now the membership has reached to 163 with land ownership of 188ha and average production 173,000 kgs of exportable green bean. Since the members have a long experience in coffee cultivation and coffee is in the natural forests, it is convenient for organic coffee production.
The cooperative in specialized in the processing of clean washed & natural coffee sourced from its members only through the process of selective hand picking of fresh red cherries in a similar way to the washed type. Right after delivery fresh red cherry to the wet mill sorting unripe /over ripe and other impurities is made using simple hand picking as well as floater tanks made from cemented containers to soak before delivery to drying tables.
The drying facilities are raised tables to 1.2 meters above the ground that are made from local bamboo and eucalyptus woods covered by black shade nets under and over (using hoops) to facilitate the slow drying that would probably take 7-14 days for washed and 20-25 days for sun dried ones final drying at the recommended moisture of 11.5-12%
