The coffee story

About
Sourced from the Kajere women's farmer group in North Elgon, this lot is a product of intentional collaboration and dedication to expanding opportunities for women in coffee. Only cherries meeting 90% cherry board selection with a Brix reading of 17% are chosen, ensuring a pristine foundation for fermentation.

The cherries undergo 14 days of whole cherry dry anaerobic fermentation in plastic barrels, allowing deep flavor development while preserving clarity. After this stage, the coffee is pulped and placed back into barrels for an additional 48 hours of dry anaerobic parchment fermentation. Once fully fermented, the parchment is washed and solar-dried to 11% moisture before being transported and rested in a temperature-controlled warehouse for optimal flavor expression.

What excites us most about this lot is not just its 2nd Place recognition at the 2025 Uganda Taste of Harvest (Washed Category) but the story behind it. This coffee represents the hard work of three women at our HQ—Agnes (Projects), Nancy (Microfinance), and Mercy (Buying & Certification)—who have spent months identifying and supporting women’s groups in regions where cherry mobilization and segregation can be a challenge. Their commitment to finding farm groups with a shared vision, cultivating local quality leaders, and ensuring delivery as a collective has resulted in one of the most celebrated coffees on every table where it has been presented.

Equally significant is the mentorship behind this lot—Ibrahim Kiganda, refining his teaching season after season, led this station with the assistance of a team member he trained in Sironko last year. The Kajere Ladies Washed Anaerobic Fermentation is not just an exceptional coffee—it is a testament to the power of collaboration, learning, and the pursuit of excellence for Uganda’s women in coffee.

Sourced and processed by the same dedicated team behind our recent accolades — 1st Place Africa Honey 2025, 2nd Place Uganda Taste of Harvest Washed 2025, and an 87.75 score at Europe’s first Live Green Coffee Auction at Madrid CoffeeFest, where we achieved $27/kg — this lot reflects the depth of discipline and precision at origin.

It stands as a testament to what alignment makes possible: when farmers, processors, and quality teams move with shared intention, the result is not only exceptional coffee, but shared success that reaches far beyond the cup.
