The coffee story

This lot comes from Glanmalure Farm, a specialty-focused farm owned by Vera Stucker and part of her larger estate. The lot is prepared by a special sorting process after the coffee is soaked and washed at the factory. Similar coffees to this made it into Cup of Excellence and were being auctioned in the Alliance for Coffee Excellence in February 2021

Glanmalure is based in the Arusha region in Northern Tanzania on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater. The farm has grown coffee for around 100 years in an altitude from 1550 m to 1650 masl. They grow traditional varieties like Kent, Bourbons and SL28 and also Batian, Gesha and Pacamara. All coffees are grown under the shade of trees next to 80 hectares of preserved rainforest, going up to more than 1800 m high.

Vera is part of the Ngorongoro Coffee Group, an initiative created by estate owners on Northern Tanzania to promote their coffees. The group, in partnership with the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, hosted in 2020 a Private Collection Auction, including some gems of Vera's farms.

Comments on the 2021 harvest:
The  2021 season was again a challing experience. It rained quiet a lot in November 2020 , which brought the whole farm into flower. This has greatly benefited nature.  Since the rains in 2019 ongoing 2020 dry rivers came to life and the freshwater comes bubbling down the mountains even in the now long drought in 2021. However, this strong rains in November 2020  made the trees bloom remarkably once only. After a very first early harvest peak in June 2021, the individual stages of development could be observed well in July and August. The harvest 2021 was finished very fast and early in October 2021.
Now in November 2021 the first flower just developed after the first rains. h

The coffee beans are heavy and large in the season 2020! The AA grade share is not below 65%.  The high scores caress the soul of us coffee farmers. This year we produced our traditional washed Kent as well as some micro-lots (Honey processed coffees, SL28 variety and a small volume of naturals). For the micro-lots, we only chose the coffee beans showing high Brix values.

Agriculture is always a challenge of a special kind. Working with nature and people for such a beautiful product is difficult but also a deeply fulfilling work. We hope you can cup this passion in the coffees we are sending to you! -

Vera speaking to farm workers at the farm. She spends at least half the year at the country

The process

The coffees are fully washed and than after a soaking time of 12 to 24hours carefully picked by hand before raised on the african beds. Here they will dry slowly under the african sun to the perfect moisture for further conditioning in the store.
