The coffee story

CORO is a 2,500-member cooperative in Oaxaca, with warehouses in all producing regions of Oaxaca: Mixteca, Cañada, Papaloapan, Sierra norte, Sierra Sur, Istmo, Costa. It stands for Cafeticultores ORganicos de Oaxaca. All coffee is organic certified.

In Oaxaca producers own on average 0.5 hectares, which creates a challenge for producers to access any market. People live very far from urban centres where the trade happens, and transporting small amount of coffee is usually financially inefficient. This is why Coro has been successful since its establishment in 2007. They have 15 warehouses accross the region , each with its team of field tecnicians where they receive dry parchment all along the coffee harvest season. Coro is able to provide a stable market for all the small scale growers, create profiles per región and altitude, and capitalise on the organic practices in the región by certifying their members. They also accompany their members with farm renovation, giving away up to 1.5 million new plants to their members every year.

For Ensambles it is our second year working with Coro, and we feel privileged to offer the best of Oaxaca: the lot available here is from the famous region of La Cañada, where only shaded typica thrives at 1500+ masl. It is balanced, creamy, lots of caramel and citric notes.
