The coffee story
Farm: Finca La Unión
Region: San Pedro Necta, Huehutenanago
The original name of the farm is "La Unión". The farm is
located in the Agua Dulce village, in the municipality of
San Pedro Necta, in the department of Huehuetenango.
This region has ideal environmental conditions with average
temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius, average rainfall of
1600 mm annually, and an altitude ranging from 1500
meters to 1780 meters. (There is a meteorological station
which can be observed online http://meteorologia.anacafe.
org/Clima/)
The property was acquired in 2017, the first thing we did
was the renovation of the coffee plants. We planted the
are with 40% of special varietals and 60% with varieties
with high production; each varietal was planted by lot,
which allows us to separate each varietal easily. Currently
there are 22 varietals, the main ones being: Pacamara,
Geisha, Anacafe 14, Catuai, and Villa Sarchi; covering an
area of 18 hectares. In addition, we have an area specific
for varietal validation, the project is being executed with
the help of World Coffee Research and Hanss R. Neumann
Stiftung.
In 2019 we initiated the first full yield harvest, however
this is the first time we process our coffee in the new wet
mill; where different processes can be carried out, such as
washed coffees with controlled fermentation, Natural,
and Honeys.
