when a group of small farmers of Pozo Fundo members of the Pastoral of the Earth
organized to give continuity to social work to combat the rural exodus and founded
in 1991 the "Association of Small Producers of Pozo Fondo ", with the objective of
promoting cooperation in the group and thus improve living and working conditions
in the field.

The Association was one of the first organizations in Brazil to obtain Fairtrade
certification in 1998 and made its first commercialization of Fairtrade coffees in
2001. As the membership table and its volumes were strengthened and increased,
producers perceived the need to make it viable marketing and professionalization of

Poço Fundo e Região Ltda. Currently, Coopfam has 447 partners located in 20
municipalities of the South Region of Minas. The Cooperative also has organic

the cooperative family, in the production and marketing of products with quality,
performing actions of environmental preservation and interaction with society.

predominantly mountainous relief, the harvesting process is done manually
facilitated by some tools and machinery. The drying process of the coffees is done
naturally in order to later carry out the process of storage and processing of the
coffees in their own warehouse, the organization also has a medium coffee roasting
industry. The organization has a total of 337.52 ha with organic coffee production,
11 hectares are already in conversion from conventional to organic, there are areas
that are cultivated by women (currently they are 66 workers), additionally, the
production of specialty coffees is developed and SAT coffees, without the use of

The organization develops with part of the Fairtrade Premium the "Good Water"
project which started in 2015, encouraged by the Coopfam and Tchibo association
with the aim of improving the health, hygiene and environmental conditions of the
producers in the field. In the initial phase, ecological pits were built benefiting 170
producers and their families. In the following stages, water potability analyzes were
carried out for 135 families and in 2017 all the members were benefited by the
analyzes; Protective activities, spring recovery and installation of filters against water
contamination was also carried out for.

The community is one of the pillars of Coopfam, which is why the United for
Inclusion Program was created. This project aims to promote and include children
and adolescents with special needs in society, defending their rights, as a way of to
guarantee respect and equal treatment, according to the particularities of each one.
In addition to supporting administrative expenses, Coopfam makes possible the
services provided to children and adolescents in the areas of pedagogy, psychology,
physiotherapy and occupational therapy, with each individualized attention.

The differential of Coopfam was always the production of organic coffees and since
its founding the organization encourages producers to stay in the production of
organic coffees, increase production areas and promote the adhesion of new
producers. In addition, the organization provides support in the finalization fund for
the period of transition from crops to organic, in addition to paying for certification
and promoting courses, training, field days and participation in fairs for the training
of producers.
