The coffee story

Caramelo is one of Sancoffee's main recipes, produced with consistent quality every year with coffees from the farms who are members of the cooperative.

Cup profile: Classic brazil flavour notes (nuts, toffee, molasses, dense body)
Score range: 83+
Traceability: The same region, always coop members
Advantages: High blender (good replacement for washed coffees from Central America), versatile, consistent large volumes

About SanCoffee
“At SanCoffee, our work is a service-oriented mindset and all about helping the farm members increase their quality and provide them and each coffee the most suitable sales channels worldwide. If the farm member approves, the transfer goes through back to the farm gate with the full amount minus administrative costs. Nowadays the farm gate price represents an average ±85% of the FOB price. It cannot be 100% because of inland freight, customs clearance, warehousing, etc., plus agreed commissions on exports (to cover risks and finance promotion for instance).”

SanCoffee was born in 2000 out of a dream shared by a group of coffee growers located around the town of Santo Antonio do Amparo, State of Minas Gerais. Very early, these growers had a vision for the nascent specialty coffee market and for advancing coffee farming in the region. With great support and encouragement from Mr Fernando Paiva, pioneer of specialty coffees in Campo das Vertentes since the '60s, these producers acquired a warehouse and founded the cooperative. Over time, this infra-structure has evolved to state-of-the-art, automated, dry milling machinery and warehousing solutions.

Since its inception, Sancoffee has been a major driving force for the development of specialty coffee in the Campo das Vertentes region. Deeply inserted in the local community, Sancoffee is a proud supporter of initiatives to generate progress and prosperity through the coffee business. Along with the member farms, the coop is engaged in several projects aiming at social and environmental responsibility to ensure the sustainability of the coffee activity in the long term. As a result of these efforts, Sancoffee has been awarded the B-Corp seal in 2019.

In commercial terms, Sancoffee has always been guided by transparency and trust, resulting in long-lasting relationships around the world, with most customers over 10 years. Nowadays, consistency, innovation, integrity, stewardship and transparency, still govern the actions of Sancoffee, seeking to constantly adapt to new market trends and using coffee as a carrier to create a better life for all those involved.

Social initiative: Beyond Borders Program

The Beyond Borders is a small coffee holders program created in 2012 with the purpose of promoting prosperity among growers from Campo das Vertentes region and their families, in order to provide them with access to the specialty coffee markets.

Carbon neutrality
SanCoffee has long been committed to the sustainability of its activities, whether in terms of environmental preservation or social responsibility, aiming to improve living conditions in the surrounding communities and contribute to the future of generations to come.

As coffee growers, we are deeply connected with nature but also involved with the most important economic activity in our region. Thus, we strongly believe we can collaborate more with the planet and our people.

Climate change is undoubtedly one of the major issues we are facing, it poses a real threat to the future of coffee growing. Therefore, we see it as a natural evolution to start working on our carbon footprint. In 2020, for the first time, we have been able to offset 100% of greenhouse gases emissions corresponding to the year 2019, to become one of the first coffee coops to achieve Carbon Neutrality in Brazil.

The process

Harvest: Selective Mechanical Process: Depulper for cherry separation (even maturation) Drying: Thin layers on the patio, mechanical dryer finishing for more uniformity
