The coffee story

The greater "Los Yungas" territory is where Bolivian coffee is produced throughout a very wide area sharing the same steep, cloudy and remote landscape as Caranavi.

Los Yungas means in Aymara language " warm lands".

Uchumachi coffee farms are based in this high and tropical climate as you see in the picture. They are small due to challenges created by isolation and a lack of good roads and available labour.

Bolivian farmers don’t have processing equipment or transportation and it is a hurdle to reduce their production costs. Uchumachi producers from this micro-lot had to drive every night for 1,3 hours to deliver their cherries at the wet mill Buena Vista and 1,5 hours back home. There is a lot of care and time invested in this coffee and the stories that are behind it are many...
