Finca Las Chicharras, is located in Jaltenango, a popular area for coffee production in Chiapas (Chiapas is located in the south of Mexico, on the border with Guatemala). There are some other coffee farms around and also some warehouses like Café California, Ofi and AMSA. This year we produced about 200 tons, we have varieties like Marsellesa, Guacamaya, Obata, Maragogype, Caturra, Geisha. The plantations are at 4100 - 5250 f.a.s.l. By now we sell a mix of varieties in European preparation but we are doing single varietal plantations so we hope in a few years we can sell 100% single varietal lotes. At this moment we just can offer a single variety of Maragogype. In the farm work about 100 people, most of them come and go because as you must know there are some seasons harder than others at the farm. We have 30 workers that spend the entire year on the farm and they stay there with their family. That's why we developed a school project on the farm for the children of our workers, so the kids have the chance to learn basic skills, the main proposal is that the children don't have to work and they are able to live a happy childhood. We work with small groups of producers (microlots) as well, the oldest group is called "El Mezcal" . 12 coffee producers are in, they have been collaborating with us for more than 8 years, we have given them training and we export their coffee, they have lived new experiences and they have hosted some customers in their plantations. We established a saving fund program so they can use it in any emergency or invest in their wet mill. In addition we have another farm in development called "Finca Las Cascadas", it is located in Chiapas as well but in the "Sierra madre de Chiapas" one of the most high places in Mexico, we reach altitude of 2950 - 6230 f.a.s.l. in the mountains of the farm. We hope the production of the following harvest will be enough for sourcing... Our dry mill is located in La Trinitaria, where the parchment coffee arrives from the farm and we process it to get green coffee beans. Here is our warehouse and facilities from where we do domestic sales to coffee roasters and coffee shops all around Mexico and of course we export it. We use to export by Full Container Load and Less than a Container Load to importers in America and Europe, by the moment we also are doing exportation by pallets, we send 8 bags of 69 kg each one (552 kilograms total) trough FedEx by around USD1.98 per kilogram, we do all the necessary documentation to their coffee arrives to their door safe and sound, It has been a really good option for those coffee roasters or coffee shop owners that don't have where warehousing a huge quantity of coffee. This year we celebrate 13 years of activities, it has been a really good experience as everything, It has good things and others not too much, but we are always learning and improving, giving the best of ourselves.
