Green Land Estate - Natural Catiguá (GL/CG/N/2223)

Green Land Estate is a 400-acre award-winning farm owned by U Sai Wan Maing in Thatkan Village, near the border of Mandalay Division and Northern Shan State, on the road between Pyin Oo Lwin and Mogok.

The farm was acquired in 1998 and coffee was first planted in 1999. The altitude goes from 1127 masl to 1158 masl and the Arabica trees are intercropped with silver oak and macadamia for shade. 

At Green Land Estate, you can see several experiments with different spacing between shade tree species, fertilisation, solar water pumps and drip irrigation.   

U Sai Wan remembers seeing coffee farms along the road near Pyin Oo Lwin as a child when going on family trips from Yangon to Northern Shan State.

Now, he runs an award-winning Arabica plantation. He was also named an Outstanding Coffee Grower by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2003.

Married to Daw Nilar Win and with two sons, U Sai Wan is one of the primary leaders in the Myanmar Coffee Association and an innovator in the national coffee sector. He is one of less than 20 certified Q Arabica Graders in the country, and also a Q Professional Processor. 

Green Land installed an on-site processing facility with a Pinhalense wet mill. It has a washer-separator, Eco-super pulper, rotary screener and demucilator.
