A história do café
Hacienda Santa Gertrudis works closely with more than 100 producers in the province of Loja who we consult and from whom we buy parchment coffee. With this coffee we make our Loja Blend AA. The varieties that predominate in this blend are Typica, Caturra and Bourbon.
Our Coffee
Despite having an extensive tradition of coffee cultivation, Loja has not achieved considerable levels of technology, due to our coffee coming from small producers.
Our Coffee
Despite having an extensive tradition of coffee cultivation, Loja has not achieved considerable levels of technology, due to our coffee coming from small producers.
There are about 11,000 hectares of crops planted in the hands of at least 5,000 families who carry out this activity balancing agroforestry systems where they grow their coffee in environmental friendly ways.
Coffee has a large social component due to the amount of labor involved in the production process; the harvesting of the cherries is done by hand to guarantee the quality, the processing and drying stages are
done in an artisan way obtaining unique cup profiles.
Hacienda Santa Gertrudis, has a fully equipped dry mill that provides an added value to the farmer’s product ensuring that they are able to reach national and international markets and doing our part in reducing the levels of poverty in the region.
The origin
Loja, located south to the Ecuadorian Andes, covers vast territories that go from costal plains to the oriental foothills of the mountain range. The broad topography of the province encompasses a wide variety of climatic floors and ecosystems, in particular the ones located in the inter-Andean valleys between 1200 to 2100 meters above sea level boast unique conditions to produce world class coffees.
