ALTO SANTA JOANA

Of Pomeranian origin, the Köpps have lived in Itarana for more than four generations. João Henrique's ancestors already produced coffee in the Montanhas Capixabas and this tradition has been passed down to them intact.

João Henrique lives with his wife Carolina and his sons Eduardo Henrique and Luiz Gustavo in a house near a beautiful waterfall. The bamboo grove when you arrive at their house catches your eye. It is a refuge to delight any visitor.

The family produces coffee near their house and what is striking is the proximity between the Arabica and Conilon varieties. In one plot, you can see the two species separated only by a road.

Initially, only Arabica was planted in the region, but over time the family noticed a decrease in Arabica productivity and the quality of the beverage was declining. Canephora was one of the alternatives to make up for this decline.

In addition, there is a great supporter of the family, João Henrique's sister, Andreia, who works at SENAR (National Rural Learning Service - Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Rural) and encouraged the family to produce specialty coffees.

In 2022, they started in the world of specialty coffees and in 2023, they took 4th place in a municipal award with Arabica coffees. In 2024, they secured first place at the Itarana Coffee Festival with conilon. 

The Köpps have a bright future ahead of them and intend to continue working with specialty coffee.
