Soil Food Web
In February 2018, Kopakama signed an MOU to begin learning and implementing the Soil Food Web program. This was done with a US roaster (Blueprint Coffee), facilitated by Artisan Coffee Imports. Since then, the coop's 7 agronomists, lead by Justin TUYISENGE, lead agronomist, are learning to use customized composting to nourish the soil and rejuvenate their coffee plantations. The women of Kopakama are integral to the project, since the cooperative uses the women's community plots as demonstration plots. In February 2019, Artisan brought the microscop donated by Blueprint coffee, which enables the agronomists to analyze their soil far more easily than was previously possible. In July 2019, Andrew Timko from Blueprint, along with Bridgette Vuguziga, brought a two-day training to Kopakama's agronomist team.
