Rwanda's Kopakama cooperative is located in the Western Province, Rutsiro district. It's main coffee washing station, in Mushubati, overlooks beautiful Lake Kivu with majestic mountains surrounding it.
The cooperative has about 1,500 members, 400 of which are women who form the Ejo Heza women's association. Kopakama was founded in 1998 with support from international agencies and the government of Rwanda, and has always played a leadership role in the community, giving farmers an opportunity to work together to work towards rural development.
