Algrano is a Swiss tech and coffee startup that changes the global trade of coffee.
We have set ourselves an ambitious goal: to revolutionize the centuries-old coffee trade industry and make it transparent and digital.

Through the Algrano online platform, coffee producers promote and sell their coffees straight to roasters in Europe and the USA without worrying about the logistics.

Awarded Best Innovation by European Coffee Industry Association at our launch in 2015, we currently count more than 1,000 sellers and roasters from all over the world. Backed by a strong investor network, our vision is to become the key direct coffee trading platform.

The Role

Based from our head office in Zurich, you will be a key member of our Marketing team and lead Algrano’s event programme at Algrano HQ, across Europe and the USA.

Coffee is a people industry. While our platform connects roasters and producers online, we see huge value in the role that events play in building in-person relationships, education and experiences, within the coffee community.  This helps build understanding in Algrano, and ultimately gives producers greater market access.

There are three core aspects to this role where you will play the lead in organising and executing, often with support from colleagues in marketing and the wider business.

  1. Educational Workshops at Algrano HQ and on the road.
  2. Events with roasters and partners around Europe (mainly)
  3. Equipping the team to have super smooth and effective trade show participation.

Responsibilities
  • Organise and execute educational workshops at Algrano HQ and abroad.
    • Covering ideation, planning, administration, logistics of guests and smooth running of the events themselves.
    • You will work as part of a small project team, continually thinking about how to make improvements.
    • Communication and coordination with colleagues to share relevant information and get support where needed.

  • Partnership Events and Cuppings
    • Working with roasters and partners to organise events and cuppings
    • Coordinate promotion, communication and events collateral with colleagues
    • Participation, often accompanied by colleagues

  • Algrano participates in major global trade shows, such as Expo and WOC, as well as a multitude of national events across Europe and also the USA.
    • You will be responsible for managing a global coffee event calendar and help the team decide the best level of participation in the multitude of events.
    • Coordinate with event organisers
    • Equip the team to have super smooth participation as smaller events
    • Play a key role in organising major events

  • Build relationships with partners in the industry and work together on mutually beneficial events.

Your Profile

Our ideal candidate will have a marketing background as well as strong event management experience. You will be well connected in the specialty coffee industry, perhaps with competition or roastery experience.  However we also value the raw skills and attitude that will enable the right person to excel in the role.

Experience, Skills and Strengths.
You are deep into coffee and understand the speciality coffee landscape in Europe. You’re excited by chance to talk coffee with other coffee professionals, and bring the energy of Algrano’s team and mission to life at events.

You embrace responsibility and want to take ownership of projects’ success. You are outcome focused - always asking why; what’s the bigger picture? What is the goal we’re trying to achieve in the activity we’re doing, and evaluate results based on this.

To excel in this role you will need to be super well organised, anticipating challenges and planning things out in advance. Equally, you are comfortable being adaptable, changing plans and solving problems.

Your colleagues would describe you as a true ‘people person’. You’re a proactive communicator and feel comfortable sharing problems with colleagues, as well as successes. You have business level English and ideally another European language such as German, French or Spanish.

You regard the travel that will be required as part of this role as a perk rather than a chore.

Lastly, you are a Swiss army knife: Algrano is constantly changing, to thrive you will be versatile and excited to grow into new challenges and adapt to new situations.
